- Launched Traces, a new series of scans, memorabilia, documents, and other records of my life and work, beginning with Kyojima Studio, 2024–2026—an interactive 3D scan preserving the studio just before packing began.
- Added A Spatial Long Exposure to the series, collapsing 38,403 points from my location history and geotagged photographs into a single undated map.
- Finished a second, updated hand-bound maquette of Scent of Time for its Paris remount during Paris Photo week.
- Published Patchcord, an agent-friendly workflow for building and debugging CircuitPython projects.
- Finished packing the Kyojima studio’s books, tools, and equipment for the move to Italy.
- Secured an Italian Type D long-stay visa.
- Spent three days at rural 2026; Jane Fitz’s five-hour all-vinyl set was the musical highlight.
- Revisited Hiroshi Sugimoto: Extinction at the National Museum of Modern Art, Tokyo.
- Escaped central Tokyo twice for riverside breaks near Musashi-Itsukaichi and in Urasa, Niigata.
- Started rewatching the extended editions of The Lord of the Rings.
- Revisited Dune: Part Two, which held up better on a second viewing.
- Watched Exit Through the Gift Shop for the first time. It was amazing; I am surprised I had somehow missed it until now.
July was a month of preserving things at the exact moment I was taking them apart. I made a spatial record of the Kyojima studio mere minutes before I packed 17 surface-mail parcels weighing more than 400 kilograms. Apparently a creative practice also has a freight category.
With the visa finally in hand, the move to Italy entered its least abstract phase: shelves, tools, books, and departures. I’m a bit terrified that I have to do it all again at home in January. I do have slightly fewer books there, so fingers crossed it’ll be easier.
The festival, rivers, exhibitions, and films kept the month from turning into a logistics marathon.
