The drawer label goes where the camera can see it
I’ve settled the label design: matte black cut-vinyl addresses with no background, and separate room and unit signs. A shelf gets its full address on the board’s front edge, near the left end: Bookshelf c3.
Drawers need two labels. The front gets the row number, so I can find drawer 3 while it’s closed. The full address, Alex 2·3, goes on the top edge of the drawer front, clear of the pull. Open the drawer and photograph its contents from above, and the address should be in the same frame.

Alex 2 closed, its fronts numbered from the floor, and drawer 3 open from above: the address on the front’s top edge is inside the photo.
That’s the useful connection to cataloging by photo: the picture should identify its own location. I shouldn’t have to photograph the closed front, open the drawer, then remember which picture goes with which.
The labels still need to be made and tried on the furniture. The first check is whether that top-edge address is readable in an ordinary drawer photograph.
